Review
"David Lehman's Oxford anthology is the single most important volume of American poetry in a generation. While we can all quibble about inclusions and exclusions (even in a 1,000-page selection), Lehman's eye--and his ear--have produced a work that will last us well into the new century."--Ashton Nichols, Dickinson College"It can't get much better than this."--Rochelle Moore, Associated Content"The book is not only a sound historical survey, but also gives the reader a powerful taste of poetry's impact upon the wider world."--The Economist"Indeed, for the reader otherwise disinclined to pick up a volume of poetry, you may also find yourself enjoying the selections in this collection. It will be a purchase that will stay with you far longer than any meal at a fancy restaurant upon which you might spend the money. And it will be better for you as well."--The Washington Times"There is no one more qualified to undertake such a project...a brilliant updating of the previous edition."--James Tate, a member of the Academy of American Arts and Letters and winner of the 1992 Pulitzer Prize in poetry

Purchased for my father in law for Christmas. He is spending time writing poetry and he is a Dr. of Education. Being Oxford this book is very well put together in both binding and in content, heavy, solid book. I am very impressed and might consider purchasing one for myself.
An excellent anthology that not only includes the expected classics but also pieces that appealed more to the popular tastes, such as "The Hasty Pudding Club." I'm looking forward to reading through it over the next several weeks.
Good reference book, good price, fast service.
This book of poetry is HUGE! I guess when I ordered it I didn't realize how extensive it would be. I purchased this for my literature loving father and he seems pleased!
The only downside of this behemoth is its size. I wish I could carry it on my wallet. One of the best books you will ever buy.The edition is impecable. The selection is exquisite, though it will leave you wanting for more.I can't comment much on the poetry itself. That's something only the bravest and/or the silliest will dare to do. And, anyway, it would be practically imposible to find common ground on the authors and pieces on this book (other than their nationality, of course). You will like some poems more than others; you might even find some you don't like or can't connect to, and you most certianly will find some that will blow your mind.Just buy it. Now.
Anthologies of poetry are always very subjective. However, I think the editor did the best possiblejob possible. All the usual suspects are included as are the usual poems however, the editor hasintroduced a few contemporary poets who will take up more space in the next edition. Worth the costif you need only one anthology
Beautiful collection of poetry, arrived quickly.
This is a wonderful anthology! I had to use it for a class a few years back, lent it out, and never got it back. It was too good to not re-own. The selection is wonderful and maps out cannonical poets chronologically. A must have for lit nerds and wonderful to slowly chip your way through over breakfast everyday.
