The pictures are instructive and include a broad array of exercises. The exercise schedules proposed are well rounded and suitable for practical use. The advice given is reasonable and shows a depth of experience in the authors.The printing errors were mentioned by another reviewer, but are not too detrimentalUnfortunately, the authors stray in verbose paragraphs into areas with which they are unfamiliar. For example, in the section giving advice for teen-age weight-training, the authors mention that interference with the "growth platelets" could be a concern. Platelets are cellular fragments circulating in blood to aid coagulation. They mean to say "plates", but offer no data from the medical literature as to the types of stresses that injure growth plates, nor do they compare the stresses offered by weight training with the stresses suffered by climbing trees, tackling playmates, or falling off a bicycle as part of a normal childhood free of serious injury. The comments urging proper lifting form to avoid back injury similarly are devoid of reference to the large and instructive medical literature; in particular, their advice to work out early in the day in part contradicts cautionary advice related to morning back inflexibility from Dr. Stuart McGill and the findings of a published study by Liberty Mutual (see McGill's books such as Back Mechanic).Persons not susceptible in exercise-induced injury will do fine with this thoughtful book, in general.

Great book! I love the more scientific approach when it comes to nutrition and the workouts are easy to follow with pictures available to see how to do it. The information is invaluable and doesn't try to promote fad diets or exercise trends. I am not new to working out or the gym, but since following the program for about 6 months I've definitely seen results (and so has everyone else!). The only issue I have with the book is the amount of grammatical and layout errors. This does not discount the content, but it makes me wonder if they had someone proofreading or editing the book at all.....

I purchased this book when it was initially released over ten years ago and have purchased about ten copies since for friends and family. As a lawyer and a certified trainer, this is truly the fitness gospel. Forget about all the "get fit quick" propaganda and buy this book. Being fit is not rocket science. Eat clean and exercise as detailed within this text. Read it cover to cover, then get to work!

Love this book! Great workout routines in the back of the book, for beginners to advanced. I used the women’s version a few years ago and recently bought this one for my husband. He is working with a flat bench and a few dumbbells, and is able to make it work so far.

Book is full of great info but formatting is really poor in some places. A lot of printing errors

I love this book. Over the years I have purchased multiple copies to give to friends. This step by step guide needs to be read cover to back for the best results. I lost 25 pounds of fat and gained 10 pounds of muscle.
