Mission one: remove the obstacle of the family dog and pounce upon the sleeping dad. Mission two: enter kitchen unseen and steal milk and cookies from the little sister. Both objectives are met with stealthy success, though the latter gets him sent to his room: I am dishonored. Chung’s warm acrylics do wonders with the dim, shadowy interior of a middle-class home, alternating between dynamic full-page illustrations and comic book–like panels that detail the boy’s meticulous maneuvers. Atop this, Chung sometimes paints fiery dragon outlines that let us in on the boy’s imagination. This book was read all week as a shared reading book for 3-5 year old's. They loved the story and pictures. We've used vocabulary from the book (courage, brave, overcome, undetected, believe, ability, etc.) in daily occurrences. It was a great way to teach self motivation and build self-esteem. This class had difficulties with transitions and walking quietly from one area to another. They love it when we say "lets creap/sneak like a ninja!". I even added the Ninja picture/word to our word wall and some of them will point out the word and name another child who's name starts with the same letter. Very happy we read this book....we also read the 3 Ninja Pigs a few months later.
When it arrived, I wasn't sure my grandkids would like this book, but I was pleasantly surprised. It's written in the style of a comic book, with almost no words and the pictures looking a little crazy and chaotic. But that's exactly what works in this book. It encourages conversation and imagination about what's happening and the new details discovered with each re-reading.
This is so darn cute. I bought it for my 4 year old ninja grandson and loved it the minute I read if. His mother commented on how nice it was too. We give him lots of books and this was a favorite right away

My three year old grandson loves this book. The quite, stealth of the Ninja really appeals to him. He likes to sneak around the house and scare the dogs or especially his dad. I've got to find a colorful head scarf so he can really get into character!
We received our copy of Ninja! today. My son and I read it at least 4 times in a row and then once more right before bed. He absolutely loves it!Arree Chung is very talented and channels his inner child well. I can't wait to see more from this new author.
As a gift fir adult we call Ninja. The story was great and she loved it.
I found this adorable book for my 3 year old grandson who is completely obessed with wanting to be a Ninja and fight bad guys. The book has great illustrations and a great message about being a Ninja in your everyday life around your home. My grandson loves the book and has wanted to read it everyday since I gave it to him. A bonus was finding the website of the author and explore all the activities. I especially love the cute little YouTube video, and my grandson did too. The highlight is taking a picture and making your own picture into a Ninja warrior. Agree Chung is a genius, and is right on with introducing Ninja to our children. Keep up the great work Arree!
