This book a nostalgia throwback to what would have been very useful to photogs during the 60-90s before the advent of the internet /social media/ search engine....The scope of the book is too wide to be of any practical use to anyone save perhaps a young person /rank beginner- searching through a high school library for general ideas on where and how to sell photography....In the magazine section for instance, there's a listing relating to Bee keepers, Woodworking, Tobacco etc.....For any effective lead gen or email marketing campaing you need sufficient market penetration ..not scope or range.....It's a numbers game- you have to send out a sufficient number of intros and inquiries in order to make the law of averages work for you...If you, as a photographer, happen to service the auto industry or the tobacco industry...you're going to do your own research and pull hundreds of resources not one or two in that industry..that this book provides....Useless...Likewise, under the section Photo Representatives.....there's really a very small amount relatively speaking....and let me say that i got the distinct impression that those listed herein might not be the best suited to assist any upcoming photographers...I got the distinct feeling that most are buyers brokers and not photog reps....there's a huge difference..These are all principally brokers ...they buy from you what they know they can sell ...They don't care about photographers ...or helping you to market your vision...or work.....Wake Up...A lot of them probably get unfairly deluged with calls as well, since the book gives an inaccurate snapshot of the available reps in the states as a whole...I called one....no names please...Fre(*& Scot(( lol...Very condescending....had the feeling just chatting with her that I just picked up my very first camera a few days ago....(I'm an experienced and accomplished pro lol) Anyway, after a few mins the just of the conversation goes something like this: I sell this this this and that...But i won't sell this this this and that....OK! haha. Didn't look at my book....She is a salesman....a broker...not a rep...doesn't have anyone but her own interests at heart...And probably that's the common theme among most of the reps listed in this tome....maybe purposefully .too few reps listed in this book to be useful - ENGINEERED SCARCITY...And the reps listed here seem to have no real talent and no doubt get too many calls from people that read this book...and will take you for granted...FYI ...I assumed after looking at this particular section (reps) that there maybe weren't that many reps in the US ....was kind of a downer....I was wrong ..About a week later i did a quick down and dirty google search...."Photo reps in NYC" .....I was astounded ...there are TONS....in NYC alone....probably a lot moreSave your Money.....This book a nostalgic throwback to what would have been very useful to photogs during the 60-90s before the advent of the internet /social media/ search engine....Right off the bat the scope of the book is too wide to be of any practical use to anyone save perhaps a young person /rank beginner- searching through a high school library for general ideas on where and how to sell photography....eThe scope too wide but the depth within any particular area too shallow....that basically sums it up...In the magazine section for instance, there's a listing relating to Bee keepers, Woodworking, Tobacco etc...One listing for every letter of the alphabet for sure..but that is worthless..For any effective lead gen or email marketing campaign you need sufficient market PENETRATION..not scope or range.....It's a NUMBERS game- you have to send out a sufficient number of intros and inquiries in order to make the law of averages work for you..How about a downloadable email list at least so that you can plug into your email marketing program ...? Good:General good advice to start your own photo business, or even if just a side hustle.Resource list: TBD. I have yet to check with each gallery/site/fair to see if it's a quality or current option.Bad:As another reviewer said, we are in the digital age and the photo business world has changed dramatically in the last 10+ years. The book doesn't seem to reflect this trend as much (if at all) as it should. Lots of talk about 'submit your slides or film...."Poorly Indexed. Several items weren't on the page the index said they were.Several of the resources/leads listed are no longer in business. Particularly the magazine section (PopPhoto, ShutterBug and others).I'm still glad I bought it. But realized it isn't' a complete/comprehensive overview of business options it the current photography scene. I really hope they completely revamp the next edition. The 2018 edition shows its age, poorly.

From the Newbie to the Professional this is the annual bible for anyone interested in making photography more than a hobby. The most popular markets are covered in detail with thorough descriptions of thousands of potential clients. This is a MUST have that will put you well on your way to entering the photography as a business market. It is definitely worth the $$. And you can write it off as a business expense on your taxes if you itemize!

I've been using this Market guide for years and it is indespensible for my $ucess and longevity in photography. If you can't succeed with this you aren't doing your homework.

I've been a photographer for a long time and with print publications and the media in general failing I thought this book might open a few doors. I was wrong as the information was really outdated in todays digital world. Also in the publishing arena were photo editors are looking for low ball images and free content this book spends a lot of time talking about the analog days vs. digital strategies.

This is a scantly researched list, missing many, many publications, and there is spotty indication of what the pay rates may be for the ones that are listed. Apparently publications were given a questionnaire, and the answers -- no matter how incomplete -- make up this book. You might do just as well yourself between a news stand, some web research, and a polite cold call. Save your money.

This has been a great book to use. It's packed with a ton of great information. My only request for future updates would be to order the Art Fair section by state instead of alphabetical.

Great collection of places that buy freelance photographers work! If you take photos, consider picking one of these up!
